Hi all,
Purchased a Ford Fiesta Zetec MK4/5 2002 1.4 16v last week and I need some advice regarding its condition and what it would benefit from.
Mileage at time of purchase –
Used by a couple who live abroad and no longer will be returning to UK. Since it was registered, it had services every year until the last service in 2011.
Mileage readings since 2009;

2009: 46k
2010: 47k
2011: 48k
2012: 49k
2013: 51k
2014: 53k
2016: 54k
2017: 55k
2018: 55k

So, as you can see, the car has done little to nothing. 10k since its last service which was 8 years ago.
Should I consider the 10-year guideline for the brake fuel, coolant, power steering, spark plugs or stick to the ‘change every 20,000 miles’ etc?
I have had 4 new tyres fitted and an oil change. I am considering the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, brake fluid change, coolant change, power steering fluid and cambelt (and the bits with that). Is this a waste of my money or a good idea? Can you recommend anything else I should check?

Thank you so much in advance!

Do the liquids & liquid filters, maybe the cambelt. Leave the plugs & brake pads, check the colour of the air filter & check the discs.

All you really need to do is change the cambelt ( make sure it’s
Not already been done in the past few years) new Oil (5/30 on these) and filter and good tyres (done) maybe get someone to take rear brake drums off and clean up adjust the shoes check for leaks in the wheels cylinders.

You haven't "brought" the car, you've bought it.
You're welcome

..and if it's got 55,000 miles on the clock it's hardly 'unused'.

...and advise is a verb.

You will all be sad to hear of the demise of Pistonheads.
It was so boring that everyone on it gave up driving and took up Critical Analysis of English Usage instead.

So, Welcome to ... Tahdaahhhhhhhhhhh!

I always like a bit of levity, but I'm sorry, please explain the joke?

Bad show and a perfect example of how not to welcome a new poster asking a perfectly sensible question - (think back to when you got your first car you might ask the same questions if the web had been invented back then!).

This brought not bought thing is really annoying - but I just ignored it and assume our schools are now so bad that people sadly are not armed with basic English language - but this is a car forum not A level English....

A level English is generally literature based consisting of critical analysis of books and plays.

Only thing I would do is change cambelt, check accesory belt and tyres and throw some new fuel in with a decent battery.

Everything else leave well alone.

Take for 10 to 15 mile shakedown and if alls well, leave well alone some more.

Cheers,

Tony

Hi Ryan, it sounds like you have got yourself a tidy little car.

As well as what has already been suggested, considering its recent negligible usage you should clean out the breather pipework and collector box. They tend to be a little prone to gumming up with short journeys and with old oil the situation is just made worse.

Good Luck, and if you can stomach the abuse from certain members, please return with progress and pics.

You might need to change the tyres, not through wear but age.

Evidence, CP12 and 227bhp?

Ryanparmenter has one post, this one. What makes you think he's a troll?

Ryan, it would help if yolu replied. Don't be put off by all the nay-sayers!
