Hi all, I’ve a Golf R32 2006 that I’ve bought that has issues, when coming to a stop there’s a clunk (not loud), it’s noticable by anyone who knows these cars so I’m wondering if anyone has a go to guy to fix them? I’d also be interested in what it entails? It’s pissed right on my Friday chips as you can

I used Bristol Gearbox Centre for mine when my Mk5 GTi DSG started clunking, rebuilt my mechatronics unit while I waited and it was silky smooth afterwards.

Even if you don't use them, give them a ring and get an opinion on the cause and cost of a fix. They know these boxes inside out.

I did, they mentioned £1750 or £2500 to sort, could I ask what you paid?

It was around 3 years ago and I paid roughly £750 for the mechatronics unit to be removed, repaired and refitted while I waited.

Did they say what yours needs?

I live miles away from them too but mine was driveable so I just waited until I had visit to my brother in Gloucester and dropped in for a chat from there. They fitted me in that day so I didn't have to drive all the way back again.

There must be someone nearer to you that can sort it, I just found loads of places wanted to try various things with no guarantee of a fix whereas this lot knew exactly what it needed and guaranteed it'd work.

Fingers crossed you can find someone who knows what they're doing a bit more locally.

Apparently ECU Testing are the recommended chaps when it comes to mechatronic repairs.

Have you tried a calibration reset first?

Throttle body reset may also help if doing the above.

It’s booked into a vw specialist and I’ll start with a service and recalibration, thanks, strange thing is it’s only after 25 mins or so of driving

Sounds like when the oil is up to temp.

Recommend http://www.easigears.co.uk for you.

VassTech send all their gearboxes issues there too.

I thought that as well, how would that cause the issue? Does the viscosity change?

Welcome and good luck

I just had to get out of my A6 despite having bought it FASH.

Above (easi-gears) helped diagnose the odd noise I was getting changing down the box as a worn synchro in fourth.

These boxes are not really serviceable.

I had an Audi Extended Warranty on it and when I took it to Audi they warned me the previous owner had not had the ‘box oil changed at 38,000 and so u likely I could use the warranty

New box cost........ wait for it

£10,950.

Balls to that. Traded it in elsewhere with full transparency

I can only add that if you are thinking of using the Main dealer near the above -
Don’t
I won’t break forum rules to further detail.

Happy for you to PM me on it if you like.

Oddly enough - the dealers won’t repair them - hence the indi suggestions of Bristol ( I rang them and they seemed sound and knew their onions) and Easi Gears who diagnosed it for me.....
and proceeded to scare me stupid
