Remove the USB stick, unplug the TV from the mains and wait 5 minutes. Plug it back in again and see if it has cleared itself.

I don't know what's happened, or how to fix it (sorry) but on my old LG there was an XD setting... can't remember what it was - some kind of post processing effect, and there was the ability deep within a menu to preview XD on versus off in a split screen view like you describe.

It sounds almost like its put itself into some kind of demo mode and has glitched somehow... what was on the USB and how old is the TV? Have you used the USB to view things before? Because I know my old model LG had a USB slot, but this was a service slot for firmware updates only and couldn't play content. I'm angling towards the possibility of the TV sensing the USB and trying to then install something, and getting corrupted in the process. It might be recoverable if you do a search and see if the correct firmware is available online and see if there is a process to re-installing it in the same fashion. You'd like to think that would do a hard reset of whatever has happened to the software which has cause the problem to come about.
