2002 Ford Mondeo Ghia - Front Engine - FWD to mid Engine RWD
Discussion
Greetings!
I am new to this forum so please bear with me.
After a bit of searching, I am still trying to better understand a rather simple technical element. The steps to transfer a front engine, fwd car into a tubular space frame chassis (fiberglass body- think Ultima inspired design).
My donor is a 2.0 litre Duratec (5-spd, manual) used in a 2002 Ford Mondeo Ghia edition. I understand a popular choice in the kit car world/for this type of modification.
Particularly, I am having trouble visualising the steps involved to be able to make this happen, especially from a drivetrain/power transfer element, given it begins as a front engine, FWD to wanting to be a mid-mounted RWD configuration.
Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated!
Cheers!

The easiest way with a FWD transverse engine is to simply move the whole drivetrain backwards so that the gearbox diff lines up with the rear wheels instead of the front.
Thanks for this Jagnet! I am beginning to see why this would be a popular choice for kit cars. What impact does this have on the transmission/gear layout (if any?). i.e Will it still keep the same H pattern or.....?
