Hello..

I have a question.

My race engine is 1.9 scholar engine.

I had buy a second hand race car from british.

This spec is 238bhp.

Prevrious owner say this is rebuilt engine.

First question is this engine have little smoke(white) I think oil burn.(no smke over 4000 rpm,but ta little white smoke on idling)

Is this normal? and this elice have middle muffler and race end muffler.Korea dont have a sound test.

Which is good to more power fit or remove muffler?

I don't know exactly couse k race engine is first.

second question is I will uprating car weight

to 1030kg.Because Korea GT is matched weight whole car.(IS200,HONDA S2000,BMW320,HYUNDAI COUPE.These car over 270HP)

If I uprating to 1030 Kg how about elise handling?

I will change shocks and spring(F 24kg R 22Kg)and stabil. Does it no problem to handling?

What kind of setting to good fo elise?

Third question is I will fit 17inch wheel to front tyre(korea rule)

Does it no problem?

I

Fourth How to set toe and camber to best control on technical course?

Hmm..

Very difficult to setting on S.korea. I reall want to winning to GT race with my elise.

Please help ...

Thank you very much.

hello, i'll try to keep things quite simple, if you need anything explained, just ask. (your english is better than my korean!)

white smoke: to me, this usually means the mixture is too lean (not enough fuel) however, it would usually occur at high rpm. if it's at idle, I'd suggest looking more closely, watching the oil level and get a compression test done.

taking out the 'muffler' will, very generally, improve power. you need to look at gas flow but usually, the less silencers, the better the flow.

if you have to make the car heavier, you will need stiffer springs and dampers (especially for rebound) and probably need to change all geometry settings.

the extra weight and different spring and damper rates will make the car handle very differently. without seeing the car and taking temperature readings etc it is very difficult to suggest settings.

I do suggest putting the weight over the front end of the car to help push the nose down onto the track. try to attain a 50/50 weight distribution (or as close as possible) you will probably need more front negative camber and probably a little more at the rear. with extra weight, be aware of roll oversteer.

if the front is too stiff, it will understeer more in slow corners. too soft and it will be unstable in fast corners. for a car like this, you need to spend at least two days testing, trying different suspension parts.

when you run the car, change only one thing at a time: drive car, come in, change front dampers, run car. come in, change rear dampers, run car etc. if you change more than one thing at a time, you will not know which part has made the difference.

I am unsure, but I think 17 inch wheels will be very big to put under the elise arches. suspension travel will be very limited and will make setting up suspension very difficult.

there are people here who know far more about this than me but these are what I would describe as very general guidelines.

Thamk you very much.

I'm very happy your detail answer.

You can understand my konglish..Hmm ^^;

I have a 1 more question. My elise shocks are ohlins(44mm,it adjustable compration rebound)spring is eibach.I don't know this spring rate.

which weight spring usually use on british race ?

And how much camber usually use?

Thank you.

It might be worth emailing user on here called scuffham. He runs an Elise in the Britcar series here in the UK and may well be able to help you out.
