Sold all my fast bikes and hung up my leathers a few years ago. I’m only 45 but felt the time was right what with pot holes and arse holes the fun had finally gone.

I kept my Vespa 946 but that’s done less than a 900 miles.

However, I was checking bike trader out and a triumph speed cup took my fancy, then a BMW, then a Ducati cafe racer and finally a Norton dominator.

The Norton Dominator just looks a piece of art just like when I first set my eyes on a Ducati 916. I bought it there and then, I had only passed my test 6 weeks and a new CBR 600.

Anyway, anyone here run a Norton. I’m sure it would be a summer toy only and won’t do 400 miles a year. Is it a step up from a commando cafe racer ? My feeling is the dominator would hold its money better, would this be the case ?

Any advise from owners would be great, good or bad.

Hi mate,

I have a 961 Commando owned it for 5 odd years and never had a problem with it (other than plugs and leads) - will say that is been modified on the engine, gearbox and a few other things by a firm called Egli Motorsport in Switzerland (the same ones that do the Egli Vincents)

Happy to answer any questions as I think the main running gear is more or less the same on both

EDIT: forgot to add - need to keep them on a charger ideally, if you do it fires on the button, if not they can be reluctant in cold weather.
