Traffic Signs Manual (updated 2019)

The Traffic Signs Manual has, at last, been updated. Until today, the Traffic Signs Manual included many references to TSRGD 2002 - which was revoked in 2016.

Explanatory note - "Alteration to the Traffic Signs Manual chapters 1, 3, 4, 5 and 7 to incorporate the regulatory changes introduced in the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016."

Still no mention of the legality of Smart Motorway speed limit signs.

Working to the guide here, they do not conform, as they are white lettering on a black background, rather than black on white, and they do not conform to the correct font.

Don't fancy being the one to try it in court though! ;-)

I was speaking to someone the other month, about the ‘decluttering’ of signs. He mentioned that the reduction in the number of speed repeaters signs was to keep the set up legal when people had pinched the occasional 40, 50, or 60 sign for birthday parties.
