In recent years we have seen an increase of hate attacks on social media.
The recent attacks in New Zealand being the most recent.

However we constantly see many people using this form of media to attack both politicians individuals political parties companies that have provided a poor service or even individuals.

In the last 6 months i have experienced this myself from a well know supplier in the early TVR world and the more i ignored it the worse it got until i finally sent a letter to the Directors of the company telling them that if it continued i would be taking them to court.

This prompted them to announce several hours after receiving the letter that they where winding up the company.

The reason for highlighting this is to encourage people to be careful when using social media there are sadly some strange and evil people out there.

Sadly those running these webb sites are very slow to intervene and this allows this kind of activity to continue.

If you have an experience that you would like to share please do.

At some point this needs addressing.

Regards

To be blunt some of the bickering on threads in the News section could be said to veer into that territory.

One I do know of is a friend of ours who worked at a school in Birmingham. She received considerable abuse on facebook because of her stance regarding a pupil who had been excluded. This wasn't aimed at her facebook pofile - she didn't and doesn't have one. It was via a "slag the teachers" group that was set up by some parents.
It was pretty vile

Sadly thats the kind of thing that i am referring to and there are many levels of hate attacks which seem to have become socially acceptable which is very sad Dave.

To me part of the problem is that many people will "say" things on-line that they would not say to your face. You can "hide" behind a keyboard as such. There is also an issue in my experience with people somehow not realising that laws apply to what is said online as well....

Cant people just come off?
Around the mid 2000's I was on facebook + myspace and it was great to share stuff and keep in contact with friend everywhere. Some years after I came off as I aware some of the pitfalls. Its just open for abuse especially for those who like to display (or pretend to have) the showy thing in life. Its a platform for folk to raise themselves and others onto a podium and then be knocked off.

While Im tempted to rejoin to stal.. 'follow' old friends shenanigans, I'm glad to be off grid.

The SM platforms are never going to move quickly to remove any type of content that generates income through clicks, likes, hysteria, viral publicity etc.

There is no morality at the core of their businesses, it's pure $$$$$$$$$$$$$

Equally the petty bickering drivel on here is tragic, and has no meaning, but it keeps the traffic coming, and the ad revenue trickling in to whoever owns ph now.

I have a facebook profile but its very basic. Its useful as a tool to be involved with other things. In particular some of the selling groups are great to get a quick easy bargain
I regularly check what is on there and regularly delete any posts or messages that are no longer relevant / timed out
I don't post personal stuff

Try not being a dick and not trying to get the last word. It's only the internet!

Sorry if this sounds facile, but it's really not that hard!

I agree its a very useful tool and the Pacific model car closed groups are fantastic and bring owners and knowledge from owners all over the world.
I would miss that otherwise i would leave.
Its just in recent years there seems to be a change in what is acceptable behavior in so many forms of media.

yes I spend a fair amount of time around here and on a couple of political FB groups and I havent had a serious argument with anyone for a couple of years (since i got banned from NP and E hehe). Occasionally someone might take something i say the wrong way and get a bit testy but it is generally easily sorted with a few nice words and maybe an apology, failing that i just ignore them for a while.
I am done with that feeling of dreading opening up a thread or visiting an FB group, life is too short.

I have no real world identifiable internet presence and never will. I missed all that silliness by a few years and it's never computed for me to ever get started with it.

The amount of strife it seems to cause is bizarre and the older I get the better an idea it seems to be left behind completely.

Yep. And there are some real mental people out there who might actually burn your house down while you sleep so it just isn't worth the hassle just because someone disagrees with you over whether you're supposed to put ketchup or brown sauce on your bacon.

I was watching a train station documentary earlier. One of the staff members said some customers have found staff members on Facebook, then been abusive towards them and tried to track them down at home if things haven't gone their way.

Crazy.
