Can someone explain this shirt size chart to me?
Discussion
I have lost some weight around the middle so i am looking to buy some 'slim fit' Shirts.
The measurements on this chart make no sense (to me).

I am about a 42-43" Chest , 32" waist and 17" neck so i guess that makes me XL (!!).
But this chart seems to be confusing widths with circumferences and is saying the waist on an XL shirt would be 20.5 'Wide'. No man is going to have a 20" waste and a 44 inch chest are they? So the waist 'width' should be doubled to give you a waist circumference maybe? But that would give you a chest of 44" and waist of 41"..hardly slim fit..
What on earth are they on about??

Whilst it's not impossible, and ISTR you post in the gym threads so it's a distinct possibility, the chances of you having that kind of difference between chest and waist is extremely unlikely. Only bodybuilders tend to have that kind of difference.I used to sell suits and almost all came with trousers 6" smaller than the chest measurement and I could probably count on one hand the number of guys that had a waist more than 8" smaller than their chest. That was over a three year period.
Had the same discussion with a friend at the weekend. Swore blind he was a 32" waist because his Levi's said so, because of course, no manufacturer would ever try and make their customers feel better about themselves, would they?

You are quite right, i am going by the size of trouser that fits me. I assumed that would be a good guide!
So i should be looking for a 32" waist in trousers but a 41 inch waist in slim fitting shirts!
ETA: I just found a tape measure and bloody hell, I am closer to a 36" waist than a 32" but ALL my trousers are 32" and i still benefit from a belt !
I feel like a fat bugger now!
