Fault code E46 320d
Discussion
That error relates to the swirl flap motor.
Now, it may mean the swirl flaps have been removed, normally you would leave the motor that controls them hooked up to the electrical connector and the vacuum pipe.
If someone has unplugged the motor you get this error.
It may be the motor is wearing out and throwing the error.
It may be your swirl flaps are still in place, gunked up and causing resistance on the motor, that would also cause that error.
What car and mileage etc.?
Do you know the previous owner? Could you ask if they know whether the swirl flaps were removed?
Are you getting a loss of power or anything?

But it does lose power, and goes into limp mode as such
I dont know the previous owner unfortunately,
It's a 2004, 320d 190k

I would guess you need to see what is going on with the swirl flaps.
This would cause limp mode.
I would order a delete kit, blank the flaps and remove the rod from the motor that opens/closes the flaps.
Leave the motor attached, but move it out of the way so you can get to it without taking the manifold off again.
Fingers crossed £20 and an hour or so and it will be sorted.
While doing this replace gaskets on the manifold as well, most kit come with them, and also check the EGR, worth getting some decent EGR cleaner and getting all the crud out.
But with that code that is the way I would go, and sooner rather than later, a flap that can't move could break off and get ingested into the engine. Game over.
Good luck.
