I'm about to get broadband (exchange is finally been activated after years of waiting!!) and now need to think about what router I'm going to use.

At the moment the Netgear DG834G is looking good, but I'm open to any other options.

I basically need a router with a built in ADSL modem, a few ethernet/RJ45 sockets, a firewall, and wireless.

Ebuyer do their own make for cheaper here but no idea what it's like.

Cheers

Dan

DG834G

Great router, installed loads, and recommended loads.

An absolute piece of piss to setup!

I also have the Netgear DG834G and its the best one that was around at the time i bought it. Easy to set up and once it has been setup you can forget about it. It probably been running in the background doing it job for about 4.5 months now without any issues.
Although it has now been replaced with the DG834GT.
The GT has a quicker (108MPbs) wireless connection rather than the 54 that the G has. The range of the GT is also extended.
So you'd be better off buying the GT.

DG834G - Ace...

Well usually, I've installed on at our new offices and the wireless keeps shutting down. Any one come across this before or do I have to call Bogie and have a pop

Another vote for the 834. I've put in a few myself. Just make sure you load the revised firmware (available on Netgear's site). Makes the modem much more stable in wireless mode.

Well I've got plus.net 2Meg now, and it flies. Only been hooked up for a week but I'm impressed so far.

Adslguide speed test shows good speed results (between 1700 and 2100Kbps)

I got a Netgear DG834G router/modem too. Easy to set up and has not disconnected yet.

I've got the previous one - the DG824M - and it does that to me occasionally - never bothered to investigate as I just reboot it and problem solved - latest firmware upgrades, etc ....
