Recommendations for Furniture Retail Store Sales\EPOS System
Discussion
A friend of mine is looking to open a new furniture retail store and would like recommendations on an easy to use system to do the usual stuff like sales, payments, stock-keeping, reporting etc. Does anyone have recommendations for either a good off the shelf system or a bespoke offering from a reputable provider?
Thanks in advance.

We've done all the bits across a few clients (POS, ecom website, stock management, accounts system integration etc) but are yet to have one client where we do the whole thing end to end.
What part of the world is he in?

They are based in North London, I know you are a Spud and go to games regularly so hopefully that works for you? I will warn you though I don't think they'll have a huge budget which is why an off-the-shelf system will probably be cheaper although obviously not as bespoke. I work in "IT" so they asked me as it's obviously all the same thing to them but I have no clue about this stuff at all.

My season ticket doesn't pay for itself you know

Joking aside we sometimes find that the most suitable solution is off-the-shelf components with some custom integration(s) to make them all talk to each other in an efficient manner so as to eliminate things like duplicate data entry. For example a current project we're just kicking off for a chemical/cleaning products manufacturer in the midlands is gluing together NopCommerce and Xero with the Stock Management application from our bespoke ERM software and will probably also integrate with iZettle if they decide they want walk-ins (we've done iZettle integration previously for a well known trackday company based at Donington). It really depends on what they're trying to achieve, what their priorities are and what the budget is.
Happy to have a chat and bounce a few ideas around if he wants, contact details are on the website in my profile. We're based just north of Milton Keynes so popping down to London isn't an issue if necessary.
Just found out more details. it's a large overseas furniture company opening a franchise in London but the franchisee won't have much access to the systems or resources of the parent company in all likely-hood so they will need to run a system that does local stock management and sales.

Yep parent company is in Turkey which is where the stock will be arriving from. They have massive presence all over Turkey, a well known brand apparently and in quite a few countries across Europe and the Middle East but this will be the first store in London. I'm trying to find out how much support they will be getting from the parent company and whether they will be required to hook into the parent company's systems in any way.
Turkey aren't in the EU so shouldn't be effected by Brexit shenanigans. I think they have a trade deal in place already and I'm pretty sure that includes furniture as there are quite a few furniture shops importing from Turkey in North London.
Good business to get into if you have the initial setup finances, the mark up on furniture is huge.
It's gone a bit quite from the business owner though so I'll update when I know more.

I've not looked into this - but presumably Turkey are importing to us via the EU trade agreement which we won't have.... so will be just as caught up as everyone else.Good business to get into if you have the initial setup finances, the mark up on furniture is huge.

Turkey has a trade agreement with the EU, which we currently benefit from. We don't have a continuity agreement with Turkey, therefore this will not be rolled over when/if we leave the EU.
In fact, DiT hasn't got very far at all in negotiating trade deals:
