Destinations are split into zones, and each zone requires a set number of miles.
Go to this page and then click "Click here for a full list of countries by zone." bit at the bottom to see which zone your destination is in, then click on "Click here to see the full table." which will show you a tables of how many miles for each zone and class of travel.

I have 100,000 BA miles which are about to expire because I haven't flown for a while on BA.
I just found out that you can buy miles for 1.6p a mile and that will stop them expiring.
That's 1600 quid to buy your own balance back!
F**k that. Use the money to buy another ticket. Preferably on a different airline.
BA is the world's worst airline IMHO. S**t service and arrogant as f**k because they think they're the biggest and best. Hopefully one of their regular strikes will finally push them into bankruptcy and someone with a bit of entrepreneurial vision can buy up the fleet.

I think it means you could buy 1 for 1.6p and thus stop the rest of them expiring. (note: I am sure you have to buy a tenners worth or something but since 100k miles = business class return to the US or similar probably worth it)
Ben
BA are great. I usually fly American which is company policy but I'm in Korea at the moment and the flight from Heathrow to Japan was BA and it was great. For the next leg I've lucked out. It's an AA codeshare with JAL so I get to stay in company policy, get AA miles (It'll take me over the 600k) and go JAL which is even better than BA.
The BA staff are much better than the AA staff. Indeed I was in an AA focus group and we complained about the air crew. They all got better for a while but are slipping again.

Yes you're right Ben, I rang them up this morning after I got the email yesterday warning me my miles were about to expire.
Deal is 1.6p per mile and flat fee of £ 15.
