Where to invest £250K low risk

My Father is in the process of selling a Portuguese property and will move back to the UK into a care home.
He should have around £250k in his bank account after all expenses paid.
Where should he put the money to earn some income - needs to be low risk income. Lets assume he needs around £50k to be accessible (which covers 2 years of the care home fees when taking into account his £2K per month in pension 'earnings') so the other £200k isn't needed quickly.
I'm thinking ISA plus bond funds (or a low equity/high bond split type fund)?

If he needs a good Portuguese lawyer then I can recommend one.
Regarding the proceeds, anything that needs to be accessible should be in instant access cash or NS&I equivalents.
For the rest it depends upon his age and health. Investment Grade (AAA) bonds are an option (with as much held within an ISA as is possible), as are index linked gilts and others. You may be right to look at a portfolio that is heavily weighted towards such assets with some small equity exposure to back up longevity.

Sorry to hear his health has made him give up his Portuguese life to return home for care.
