H i guys, as the topic suggests, I heard about camshafts regularly snapping on 2005 versions of this engine? The Mrs is considering a 2008 car with a 1.4L Z14XEP, so I was wondering if Vauxhall ever sorted this with later builds of this engine, or are all Z14XEP's at risk of the dreaded snapping issue?

Got to be worth a prize of some sort.

Perhaps someone can answer the question (not me).

Its never been exclusive to 1 or 2 years of cars. Definitely affected cars as late as 2008, not sure of engine codes, may be more than 1 type affected. I certainly know of a 1600 2008 model that suffered.

Its more down to how well looked after the car/engine is. Regular oil and filter changes (essential) and prompt investigation of any engine rattle. Seems to be a combination of low oil (hydraulic chain tensioner) and loose cam bearing caps. The rattles ae the 1st sign that urgent investigation is needed. Failure to do so and beware the consequences.

Lots of info on the net about them.
