2011 Jetta TDi with DSG newbie
Discussion
I am looking around at the 2011-17 (?) range of Jetta TDi Sportwagon with DSG. I am a complete newbie to newer cars (currently drive a 2000 Jeep Cherokee with 262k).
Anything to be aware of with these models? Questions I should ask, things I should check before buying specific to these models? I've done some cursory searching. Seems the engines are pretty reliable but the DSG can throw a few wobblies.
It will be my daily driver (in the USA, btw) for a 12 mile each way commute on dual carriageway with some stop and go.
I am pretty mechanically minded and do almost all my own servicing.
A local car I am interested in is a 2011 Jetta TDI with DSG and 71k miles that comes with a 2 year warranty from the VW dealer.
Many thanks for any guidance.

Ask on TDI club, there's a lot of info on getting a buyback VW and TDi's in general for USA and Canada buyers. Friendly and knowledgeable bunch. Jetta SportWagen abbreviated to JSW on there.

The USA engine range is slightly different to the EU range, with different EPA emissions and ECO engines/HP, there's no 'BlueMotion' 110HP range for instance. BlueMotion Tech was a pack of fuel-efficiency/aero measures in EU models.
2011 to early-2015 TDi Jetta range is pre-Adblue in the USA , generally with EA189 'dieselgate' engines, later models (Q3/Q4 2015) will have EA 288 engines, Adblue from about early 2016, though this varies. Early cars from Pueblo, later also from Chatanooga. Good build quality on both.
Buyback cars from VW seem to have 'DieselGate' mods installed, according to TDiClub.
As to cars, they're nice to own and drive. SE spec and upwards gets more electric toys, auto-dim mirrors, auto lights and wipers.
DSG? Some problems reported out of millions of cars fitted with it. Slightly more jerky at low speeds than a standard torque converter auto, but otherwise excellent. Needs service at 40,000 miles or so. Early low torque models are dry clutch, later are wet clutch. 2 year VW warranty useful.
I have a 2016 EU Jetta SE, 2.0 TDi DSG. Almost a mini Passat and not much smaller, very refined car to drive, more leg room than a Golf, and a bit quieter. Tank range 650-700 miles. Nice long distance cruisers.
For short commuting hops? Maybe not: Ask on TDiCLub about the 12 mile each-way commute. TDi's won't have warmed up fully, especially in winter, particulate filter might not have to time to regenerate in stop/start traffic, EGR might block more quickly.
Petrol JSW probably better for commuting.
