As porno as the title sounds, I'm after the name of the above.

Many years ago my German Nan (she was from Munich incase its a regional dish) used to make a cucumber dish to go with stew.

Other than it was peeled, thinly sliced cucumber in a vinegar. I never really asked how it was made.

Does anyone here have any ideas what it was and how I make it?

Did googling “German cucumber” not return anything familiar?

Mizeria is a similar dish in Poland, Gurkensalat I think is the German equivalent.

Nah, they all seem to have mayonnaise

It could be Gurkensalat, just that my Nan made it plain.

It's very easy. Are you after the one with creamy garlic and dill dressing or vinegary?

Could be a Goulash style topping if you said it went with stews?

Pickled cucumber is a piece of piss and takes minutes.

1 part sugar, 1 part water, dissolve, good pinch salt and add a decent amount white wine vinegar; (taste it, up to you how strong you want it) a few peppercorns/mustard seeds/fennel seeds, whatever you fancy or nothing at all - bring to boil.

Pour over peeled cucumbers, leave for 10 mins, drain and eat, or put cucumbers in jar, pour over liquid, seal and eat in 10 years.

Swap out cucumbers for any other crunchy veg - same thing.

The times that I had it in Bavaria it was thinly sliced cucumber & thinly sliced red onions marinated in wine vinegar with peppercorns and dill.

The creamy one:
2 Cucumbers, thinly sliced, skin on.
Add a sprinkling of salt to them in a bowl and leave for about 10-20mins to get rid of some of the water.
Drain the water off (you can also squeeze them in a towel to remove all the water but this is excessive).

The dressing is just:
200g Sour cream, 1tbsp of mayonnaise, 1 clove of crushed garlic, some finely chopped dill, 2tbsp of white wine vinegar.

The vinegary one is basically the same process and recipe without the cream, but with some sunflower (or other tasteless) oil. So after salting the cucumbers use this dressing:
1 clove crushed garlic
3 tbsp vinegar (can also use cider vinegar)
3 tbsp sunflower oil
1 tsp sugar
Black pepper
Dill (optional) - personally I don’t like the dill in this version so I leave it out.

Thanks, definitely not the creamy one. Just vinegary cucumber. I'll try that Goulash one thanks Tiga84 as that does sound lie it could be close.

I do know my Nan wasn't adventurous when it came to food, in all the years I knew her she had exactly the same meal for each week day rofl Not sure if it was a German thing or hangover from rations thing.
