At 43, lately I've been feeling more stiffness generally. We get a staff bus to work every day and when I get off, I'm limping the first few metres until my ankle loosens off. Same when getting up in the morning. My lower back.

I've always warmed up properly in the gym, but now I'm warming up my joints too, having to do more half reps before a full range of motion, not that I never used to do that, I just have to noticeably ease the stiffness off now.

I've started taking glucosamine sulphate which I think helps.

Anyone else? This just an age thing?

Not to panic but worth checking if its a form of arthritis. When I was 41 I developed psoriatic arthritis, it came slowly out of nowhere (first symptoms are dry skin on joints and in my scalp), sore joints in the morning, once I got moving it was ok. I also suffered a bit of fatigue, wanting to sit down a lot more, needed motivation to do stuff. It got worse over time until I had a scan and saw a specialist. GPs wont really know how to diagnose it, especially if its localised they will just diagnose as a muscle injury or the like. Despite what people think, arthritis is not 'old persons disease' you can catch it at any point in your life and there are over 100 different forms. Do a bit of reading on arthritisresearchuk.org see if anything rings true against how you are feeling.

Of course it might not be, but as arthritis is such a common disease (10m people in the UK have it) its certainly something that could be worth looking into.

Sounds like age - a mixture of wear-and-tear and possibly a little arthritis!

Happens to us all smile
