CCJ I Didn't know about
Discussion
Hi all,
I recently moved back to the UK in the last few months after a 6 years of living in Norway. To my knowledge before I left I was diligent in paying off any debt I had (very little), checked multiple credit reports before I left and everything was in order. Never thought anything of it after I left as it was supposed to be a "life time" move.
I've just checked my credit report last night and I notice I have a CCJ issued on my at the beginning of this month, my electoral details are upto date with my current address and everything else seems in order except this.
What do I do? I can't see who issued the CCJ apart from the court and I'm keen to find out what it's for and to get it paid off as the money isn't an issue, I am concerned now though that I have a CCJ to my name and it's going to f
k me as was looking to buy a house in the next 12-24 months and now it looks like that's out the window.

If the issue date is withing 30 days, and you don't want to contest it/happy to pay it off, then settle it and the courts will clear the CCJ from your credit record. It will be another month before it's removed, but it will be gone.
If you want to contest it, you'll need to take it back to the claimant (the company that asked the courts for the CCJ).
This will be a longer process, but it will mean that you could have the CCJ removed and also not pay for the erroneous amount.
I've recently gone through the process of clearing up my credit record, noticed that there was a CCJ on there from an unknown company, and had that removed.
I wasn't able to catch it within the 30 days of it being issued, so i need to pay £255 to have my time in the court for the CCJ to be removed.
A long process of waiting for the courts to be free, but after 6 months, it was remove.
Take a look at here too, good place to start https://www.gov.uk/county-court-judgments-ccj-for-...
Although places like Moneysavingexpert also helps, as it will give real world examples.

It's likely that's its an old debt and the debt recovery companies have been monitoring you electoral roll status, waiting for you to pop up...…..and now you have, they issued it...…...as per the above post, get onto the issuing court and they'll tell you who issued it
The catch is that if the court judgement was correctly issued (for instance if proceedings were correctly served but you didn't actually receive them because you moved away) you won't be able to get it reversed without spending a lot of time and effort in the attempt and it may not get reversed in any event.
If that's the case you should IMO pay the amount owing (not just the original debt but the full amount of the judgment) as soon as possible. Once the Court judgment has been paid you can then get them to mark the judgment "satisfied" and this goes onto the official records. In other words there was still a CCJ but it's no longer an "Outstanding CCJ". This is explained a bit on the link posted above. If the amount of the judgment isn't too big it may well be worth just paying it asap to start clearing the decks and without a huge amount of running around or expense with solicitors.
Sarnie will be able to advise further as to which judgments do or don't have a material impact on any future application for loans or credit.

It won't stop you getting a mortgage but you may need a bigger deposit and some lenders may auto decline you but some lenders will ignore them if it's just a single one, under say £500 and is marked as satisfied...…….the reality is that if it's not satisfied, lenders won't be overly keen to send hundreds of thousands of pounds your way when on paper it looks like you've ran away from a low value commitment.Sarnie said:
