Mustang GT 5.0 or Alfa Giulia QV?

Hi,

I currently have a 2016 Audi S5 coupe (the one with the 3.0 litre supercharged V6) which am very happy with other than the feeling that it's a little sensible and well, dull. So I'm looking for something with a bit more personality and edge. I've got it down to these 2 cars. It will either be a 2/3 year old Alfa or a brand new Mustang (budget is around £45,000). I've had loads of Alfas so I'm not too worried about the brand but the Mustang is going to be way out there for me. Looks, performance and driving enjoyment are my main priorities rather than economy and practicality so what do you guys reckon?

I's I went down the Mustang I'd buy a lightly used one & spend the saving on significant upgrades that make it a much better car, but I'd buy the Giulia now if it has to be a coupe I'd buy an RC-F & add some choice upgrades to that:

I use my Mustang GT as a daily driver, and try to use it as often as I can.

It has great road presence and a lovely V8 burble exhaust note.

Being a N/A V8, it might not be as quick off the line as other turbo or supercharged alternatives but that doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the car at all.

Regarding the Mustang, choose carefully with which date the car was first registered as there is actually 3 different RFL costs for the V8 GT...£140, £450 & £555

Was involved in some filming very recently with the Mustang Bullitt. I get they are not as well put together by the Germans, but my word are they fun, especially getting the rear end out and sliding it, if that is your thing. Not sure whether the GT has the line lock feature? that is a bit of a party piece.. I was also surprised with the quality of the interior...they have stepped the game up.. Will sound much better than an Alfa..

Looked at both of these and bought an M4 Competiton.

Mustang, bit of a tank. Alfa just didn’t press my buttons.

I'm a massive Mustang fan and the Mustang/M4 have been on my radar for some time now. I've always found it hard to choose between the two though, the Mustang is more GT(big/heavy) but it does have a great road presence/sounds awesome(with the right exhaust).

Whereas the M4 has the performance(it is a fair bit quicker than the Mustang) and the turbos appeal to me more(I've had a heavy N/A V8 E92 M3) which disappointed me a fair bit, and I worry that the Mustang would be similar. Strangely and although the Alfa is really fast it doesn't really appeal to me either(maybe I'm too traumatised with having a TVR in the past though!).

why so many people harping on about VED costs? somehow I dont think 400 odd quid or whatever is going to be a deal breaker for somone wanting to buy a car costing over 40k - people who are obsessed with mpgs and the like may be bothered by such figures but i dont think anyone who really enjoys driving nice cars is too bothered whatever VED costs

Logically, the BMW Competition is the best car in it's class but I don't like BMWs and I don't want another German car. I haven't driven either yet but I'm leaning towards the Alfa.

I don't think you'd regret either, both are fantastic cars. It really boils down to what do you prefer, a scalpel or a sledgehammer?

For the record, I drive a sledgehammer and bloody love it.

I bought a 2016 Mustang last year. Last week my Edelbrock supercharger arrived. Fitting this Friday and will be around 650hp.
Car and blower will owe me less than 30k
The mustang gets so many thumbs up from strangers.

I looked at M4’s but just so boring and German. No sense of occasion.

Had my mustang for two years before i passed it on and it was epic.

I’ve never seen a car get so much positive attention, right down to grannies crossing the road and giving me gurning thumbs up!

On the VED front whilst it’s affordable it’s frustrating to have an identical car costing you hundreds more pounds a year for VED just because of registration date.

Highly recommend the mustang just make sure you get shot of the absolutely ste Pirelli p zero’s (on the mustang, i know they’re great tyres on other cars) When I had mine the tyre of choice was Michelin Pilot Super Sports and they transformed the car from a slithering slippery beast to a controllable beast!!
