Hi

I'm trying to track down my old e36 328 sport. It's showing as no mot history or tax..but is still showing as registered...so it may be of the road.... Anyone know how id go about finding if it's still around and how to track it down? Thanks in advance

If there is no online history for its Mot, that means that it’s not been Motd since 2005.

Have you done an Hpi on it ?

I used to think the same

I still periodically check to see if any of my old cars or bikes are on the road, most are not, or so I thought!

A few years ago at a classic bike meet I was admiring a bike just like the one I bought new in 1980 and sold a couple of years later, it displayed a different reg number but it gave me a strange feeling somehow, on speaking to the owner he confirmed it was a personal plate and was amazed when I told him the original number and the dealer where it came from.

My present bike is on a personal plate and if the previous owner was looking for it it would not show up on any searches.

The moral of the story is your old vehicle may be out there just not on its original number.

It is still on its original number as it shows up on searches - it just hasn't been taxed or MOTd for 14 years, so is probably dead.

If you search for a car that's now on a private plate, the DVLA site will just say 'Details not found'. It'll say the same thing if it has been scrapped properly (scrappage certificate from a certified recycler, sent to the DVLA). It's as if the car never existed.
But not everyone does this, so if the tax & MOT just lapse, it still shows on the system. It should be SORNed if not scrapped, but again, some people don't bother (or they die, and can't).
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your old car will be most likely scrap by now - either literally, or it's been sitting on someone's drive/in a field so long it's a heap.

It hasn't been officially scrapped but last keeper change 2004 and last taxed 2006 doesn't bode well.
