guys,

my air con has run out as far as I cna tell so car is in with uncle Carl for a bit of fettling to sort it out.

I am wondering however when the not to be named dealer X did my service back in March whether they should have checked the air con fluid level and topped it up. Would this be on the regular (3 yearly) service schedule or not? I suspect not (no obvious way to check the level I know of anyway - no window or fill level indicator ro warning light......)

And as a warning to the rest of you in relatively young or old 3200's - if the air con runs out of fluid you might find the pump suddenly gets real hot and that you end up with a bill to replace it... Not sure if I've been lucky or not yet - but if you can I'd check your air con ASAP, could save you a fair whack of cash. My friendly neighbourhood mnechanic recons that 'these days' an air con charge tends to last little more than 3 years before it runs dry, much less than in older cars....

Yes they should check the Aircon every Three Years at the minimum but if your dealer is like mine then they do the minimal amount of work and expect to get away with it!

Main Dealer wanted £350 to recharge my 3200 !
Found a decent local chap who cares about his company and he did a great job for much much less
www.Chillyair.biz

mine was supplied with only around 100 grams of gas in it ! when i think the correct amount should be 750.

Dont trust the Dealer!

Thanks pete - it's in being done with my preferred agent

I'm keen to establish whether the air con is on the 3 year service schedule - fi so I will speak to those who carried out my service to check that they regassed it, and to see if that tallys with the independent assessment of the issue.

Obviously it would be difficult to proove that the lack of gas in the system is due to someones negligence as opposed to a spontaneous leak.

however, as the lack of gas in the system has potentially overheated the pump and rendered the car undriavble for so far over a week I am getting a little pi**ed off about it! Don't know what the fix cost will be but the likehood of requiring a new pump means it aint gonna be cheap is it!!
