Wheel centres and other stuff
Discussion
Now had my 07MY Vantage for nearly two and a half years, and she's looking a bit frayed round the edges.... Interior is still wonderful though...

So last July I attacked the mirror stalks... well the passenger side one, the drivers side was nowhere near as bad but it is on the list for this year... here's a before and after..

I also cleaned up the rear mesh and reversing sensors - here's a before..

I didn't take an after, the results were good, but I did it in-situ so not a great job and it needs doing again - properly..
So, big list for this year including interior door stuff and the wiper mechanisms, they're corroding in a similar fashion to the mirror stalks
Anyhoo, the wheel centres are looking decidedly rough around the outer edges, new set £60-£80 but (because I like doing stuff myself) I'm wondering if any one out there has refurbed their originals?
Service to be done at Aston Cambridge in next couple of weeks, and a full body treatment - by someone who knows what they're doing
Cheers all,
Richard
It seems to have re-arranged my photo's

Did you remove the wing mirrors to sort or sort them whilst fitted to the car ?
I recently did mine and although I stripped them off the car, I just primed and painted them in a satin black.
I know some people have had them powder coated, but I couldn't/didnt want to mess with the electrics (which would obviously need to be removed for powder coating).
I'll see how long they last....
Nice work !!

I didn't remove the stalk from the car as the corrosion/flaked paint hadn't quite reached the door so I managed to feather it in.... I disconnected the mirror from the stalk to get at the underside though.. here's (hopefully) a picture of the work in progress

Wiper mechanism starting to corrode...
You have done a very nice job !!!
It is however disappointing that a 11 year old car has the amount of visible corrosion that you see here - my 25k mile DB9 has mirror arm corrosion also - fortunately only visible when the mirrors are folded - and AM refused to repair/replace under their AM warranty....5 years ago!
How come the Merc etc can deliver better quality parts like this on their mass produced boxes that doesn't corrode on visible parts at least like mirrors and windscreen wipers - I hope that AM have improved on the later products - I guess only time will tell.

Older Mercedes suffer from wheel arch corrosion long before Vauxhalls.
However, Mercedes give a 30 year rust guarantee. Try to claim though after having a full MB service history and they refuse.
Rust warranties are only for selling cars.

It's interesting that with timeless looks the age giveaway is those small components that corrode so badly..... Those not familiar with Astons often think the car is nearly new or just a couple of years old... until they get up close and see the bad bits How come the Merc etc can deliver better quality parts like this on their mass produced boxes that doesn't corrode on visible parts at least like mirrors and windscreen wipers - I hope that AM have improved on the later products - I guess only time will tell.

Still, gives me something to do when I'm not at work or working on the house or garden, and there's nothing better on a summer's evening than admiring your handywork whilst sitting in a comfortable chair and quaffing a glass of Barolo

Bacon: So, if I bring my mirror stalk over and a bottle of Barolo do we have a deal

I agree - but their wiper arms and mirror stalks don't seem to - which was my point - probably not a great explanation on my part ;-)

Make it two bottles, it takes a while for the etch primer to dry Bacon: So, if I bring my mirror stalk over and a bottle of Barolo do we have a deal

Can’t help with centre cap refurb but I just bought 4 for £56 delivered.
Main dealer via eBay
Should be home this week, I'll extract the wheel centres and see if a refurb is feasible! I bought a suction cup to pull the wheel centres out although not tried yet Main dealer via eBay

If I don't think I can do a proper job I'll buy a new set
Thanks milu
