Hi all

The reversing light on my wifes Ford focus is a bit rubbish and whilst legal for the mot it is not much help when reversing at night.

Is it allowed to add a further light, and if so does it have to be some kind of diffused lens?

Can I use an ordinary Led type thing or will it need to be a proper car lamp?
The car has a tow bar which would be ideal to add an extra light.

TIA

Would it be easier to just change the bulb for a brighter led?

You are allowed to fit multiple reversing lamps. The MOT test would check that they are all securely attached, fully working, the correct colour (i.e. white) and operated automatically. I don't believe the test covers anything to do with type approval, but I'm not an MOT tester so don't take my word for it.

I think the same tests (that they were securely attached and fully working) would apply to any work lights etc that you added.

What year is the car?

Reverse lights from 2009 onwards are an mot testable item.
