Huawei P30 - Live Launch (now)
Discussion
I'm watching for the P30 Pro announcement but a few other things are expected.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNTJt5m5Yno
The camera on the P30 Pro seems to be a great leap forward, RYYB sensor rather than the usual RGGB, a periscope zoom, larger sensor than the competition and ISO ratings of 204,800 for the P30 and ISO 409,600 for the P30 Pro
I'm impressed so far, I had thought I'd be waiting for the next Samsung Note but if the price is right on the P30 Pro I might have a dabble.
Edit: P30 Pro will be €999 - €1249.
They also announced some "Gentle Monster" smart eyewear that's due in July and a few other bits and pieces too like a 40W powerbank, some headphones, earbuds etc, nothing too groundbreaking though.

I've been waiting for this launch to see what way I go with upgrading my current Galaxy S7 Edge.
Decided that the P30 pro is not that different than the Mate 20 pro (same processor and battery, mainly camera changes but camera's on mate 20 pro are not exactly bad) so have just ordered one of those SIM free for £580. Happy with that considering they launched at £900 back in October. P30 pro is rumoured to be £899 as well so I couldn't justify spending £320 for the slightly better camera.

What version of android do these run? Is it "skinned" like Samsung do? And how quick do updates happen?
Android 9.0 with 9.1 of Huawei's EMUI launcher. Unsure on updates, I'd just expected a similar experience to my Samsung one where they take a while rather than Pixel speeds.
Not sure how appropriate it is on this thread, or how true a risk it is, but my brother is in the military and won't speak around a huawei phone and apparently isn't allowed one on base. My mother has to leave hers in the car when she goes there or whenever he visits. Not sure if that's something to be concerned about before dropping a load of money on a phone. I know, tin foil hats etc, and personally I think it's all b
ks, but hey ho.

It's not recording anything Google or Apple aren't.....
ks, but hey ho. Plus most of all your phone's components are Asian.
Any phone's gps could be recorded to trace a military building layout.
Some soldiers even left Strava running on their phones in Afghanistan and mapped the base for the world to see.

Not sure how quick they are. The previous p20 is on Android 8 still.
My Mate 20 Pro has had several updates since I got it in December. (These ship with Android 9).Last update was just security patches. 9.1 is what's likely to be on the P30 Pro, but I'm hoping that crosses over to the M20 Pro soon.

This is a serious concern, although I would have thought handsets are less likely to be targeted. It's a huge issue for 5G, which is really being pushed by the US. There is a review going on which will determine how much of their equipment (if any) the mobile operators are allowed to use in their core network (data centres effectively), and the base stations. BT have already said they are removing from the core (I assume that includes EE). The operators are heavily invested in 4G Huawei VF have said 30% - and I suspect EE/Three are even higher. 5G is essentially an add on to the base station in most cases - a ban would see them having to rip out 4G and start again, with one fewer vendor to negotiate with....
ks, but hey ho. 2 chaps in my team have picked up theirs over the past week, myself and another guy still have our P20 Pros and 2 others in the office have Mate Pros
Cracking phones, I was reluctant to ditch Apple but I'm more than happy with Huawei. Couldn't care less about the 'spying' rumours - Apple, Google, Facebook etc. are ll just as bad..
