Hi everyone,

Today I received notification via my leasing company of a speeding offence that is dated 2nd Sep 2018. I called the lease company who advised they have received thousands of such notices in the recent weeks. It would seem the French are filling their coffers before Brexit.

Does anyone know if notice can be sent this far after the actual event and still be valid/upheld etc?

Cheers,

You are talking French Law.

So the answer will be a shrug of the shoulders and a Oui

there has been a recent spate of these coming through from france dating from late august and September.

I’ve had two and am pondering whether to pay them or not.

The Gilet Jaune have destroyed 65% of French speed cameras.

The offices dishing out the tickets have time on their hands to pursue tickets that they might not usually bother with.

Mine was just under 6 months old so July maybe too old for them to chase.

I'm due to go to france next month in the same car but i might just say sod it and risk it.

two lots of 45 euros is better in my pocket than in some froggies pocket!

We've been receiving many of these for many months - there was some legislation that took force early last year I think, that allowed EU member states to share keeper information to pursue driving penalties.

We have replied to each one giving details of the operators of the vehicles, but there has been very little comeback on us, or our customers.

It seems that although there is a policy to share data across borders, there isn't a similar mechanism to enforce the collection of fines. They can send a letter, but dont seem to be able to do much if the letter is ignored.
We've had a number of vehicles go back and forth to mainland Europe, and to date none have been impounded for non-payment.

Cheers that is just the kind of info i was looking for.

I guess if they send out a thousand a day and 50% pay it will cover themselves so it must be worth while sending them but not chasing them.
