I live opposite Keevil, just off of Salisbury Plain, so I've seen and heard just about everything from the regular C17s lapping for hours overhead to Ospreys, Apaches, Tornados etc and all the USAF heavies heading into Fairford.
Bit of a weird one tonight though, 2 or 3 solid red lights in very loose formation managing to do very, very large circuits extremely quickly. The lights suggest that they aren't too high up, but they are remarkably quiet aside from a fairly deep rumble. No ear piercing jet noise, they sound more like distant C17s but are lapping like Tornados.
Still going right now, I'm in Westbury at the moment and they just about fly over the edge of town on their circuit over the plain.

I'm in that neck of the woods at the moment - they are F-15s at 10 - 15k floating around the western part of Salisbury Plain. Been there every day this week,
That could be it, loads of activity at the moment. It's the solid red lights that have me confused though, not seen that before. They are *very* well lit. Only know they are F-15s as I spotted them before it got dark. They seem to do a late afternoon slot and then an early evening slot. Up to three of them, looks dead boring for the crew..round and round and round - quite often drifting just north of the Plain before turning back south. Quite mesmerising in a strange sort of way!
