Very interesting article about the two new Air Force Ones purportedly being built in the US, and the reported programme cost of $5Bn, which is roughly equivalent to the cost of a Nimitz class carrier. That figure is for just two aircraft, both of which aren't even new as they have been sat at an airfield in the Mojave Desert for a few years. The two 747-8is were apparently built for the Russian airline Transero, which went bankrupt in 2015.

That's some bill for 2 second hand aircraft.
I cant believe that that they have dropped the in flight re fuelling capability that seems a stupid decision.

That's incredible.

Can't help but feel there's a lot of fat in the system from people who know they'll get paid whatever...

President Trump's new jet used to be owned by the Russians? Outstanding.

I don't think the jets ever got delivered - I think they got built but never left the US. Perhaps that's why they're so expensive, surely it would cost less to integrate all the required systems and kit during build as opposed to build, disassemble, and then reassemble?

Like most things associated with Trump, it's unlikely we'll ever find out the real truth until he's long gone.
