Might seem like a question I should know the answer to, but I recently acquired a 2015 981 Cayman S.

It's very nice, but one of the compromises I made for my spec is that it doesn't have SatNav, and minimal Bluetooth integration, and no DAB.

Also, it has A/C, but I'm not sure if it's climate control.

It has two 'buttons' (short switches) one to adjust cold/hot (illuminated, but no temp displayed) and one to adjust fan speed. These are shared between driver and passenger.

What I'm not sure, is whether the hot/cold selector determines some absolute (though undefined) temperature, or whether it just selects whether the system blows hot or cold air, regardless of the cabin temperature - so just A/C, but not climate control.

I don't even know if this is explained in the Owner's Manual, as I didn't receive it (despite buying from an OPC, the dealer is sorting that for me).

Does the base A/C system not include climate control? (again, it's a Cayman S, if that makes a difference)

Thanks,

Twinfan

If you have no temperature control and a couple of blank buttons next to the rocker switches you have basic A/C. Climate was an option on every 981 model.

Climate is still an option on the 718 which is not good on a expensive car should be standard in my opinion.

Thanks @Twinfan @tracydeedance

That seemed to be the case, given there was no temp setting, but I was hoping otherwise, especially for the S model, which does get some upgrades over the base model.

Seems slightly odd when it's pretty much standard on even low end cars these days (like my Abarth 595 daily, but even a lowly Fiat 500), but I guess that's how it is.

In my mind I will pretend it's a GT3 RS, and I opted out of A/C and radio completely, in the name of weight saving wink

It's a 981/718 thing and it caught people out when speccing the cars as new. It's described as "Two zone automatic climate control" and people didn't realise that the key addition wasn't "two zone" control, but "climate".

This is why lots of cars don't have it.

Yes, it is an oddity that Porsche did that - and I'm certain it caught a lot of people out.

The Aircon works fine, but is very fiddly as it requires constant adjustment and guesswork.

Retrofit is impossible, as are heated seats, PCM Nav - all of which should also be standard.

PCM nav is at least standard on all 991.2 and 718 models, but not putting climate on as standard is nuts.

That's exactly what gave me a smidgeon of hope it might still be 'single zone' climate control.

Thanks again all.
