One year on camera still giving us bogseat Halo view. Why?
Discussion
My understanding is that the design is a 'holding' one whilst a more elegant solution is developed. The Halos themselves and the way in which they are fixed remains as last year and so no alteration is permitted.
I would imagine its rather like when they change anything on a plane, even as something as seemingly inconsequential as the type of spoons people are given, an extensive review and assessment is needed to establish the likelihood of consequential impacts.

They need to use green screen technology. Paint the inside of the Halo green, put a small camera on the front of it, and use that image to project onto the green Halo, and use some computer trickery to stitch it together seamlessly to make it disappear from the cockpit camera shot altogether.
Or give every driver a 'visor cam' with a narrow field of view so you can't see the Halo in shot at all apart from the upright spar immediately in front, like this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcL7I1NSQDs

It's not a easy thing to do. The drivers are very sensitive about anything attached to their helmet & there are issues about the connections (power, data & video) to the camera. You can often see them struggle with the intercom connectors so you can't just have an umbilical cable plugged into the helmet. It's also quite a shaky picture, especially at speed so while it might be used occasionally it's not going to be something that stays up on screen for minutes at a time. If that's the case there has to be a question if it's worth the effort especially if not every driver has to carry it. The top drivers would soon get pissed off if they were always selected & no-one is likley to want to watch the Williams drivers roll around.thegreenhell said:

They can't even get an advert to stay in the same place on the grass, what makes you think they can manage something that's actually difficult? How about a nose cam - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATrmW5s2PiU&t=...
or a helmet cam? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OwZqxfYYgw although Indianapolis is a smoother surface - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtaXU54c1dU
