Hilariously crap website.

I received an email from an agency yesterday about a job, was not spam, it was via linkedin, hence the spam as i rarely use it if at all. Have registered a few times but never found it got anywhere. so deleted (note the word deleted) the account each time.

So, the question has to be how did she find me?

I thought as I am out of work let's try and set it all up again see if things have changed?

Could I access the site? Of course not. The email that I received the enquiry from was tried, password tried, and get this, password reset tried yet no email address could be found relating to that! The one that I just received a message from!

Every effort made possible to make sure you cannot email someone for help, just pushing you round endless FAQ sections. I remember now why I know it was the biggest pile of crap I ever tried to use job search wise.

Sorry, but isn't this supposed to be a SERVICE? Utter rubbish I in my experience, and clearly not designed for people like me

You can "Invite" someone to connect to you on linkedin using just their email address. This email address does not have to match the email address the person may have registered to their existing linkedin profile.

The idea is to "invite" people who are not already on linkedin to create a profile. Unfortunately it fails if you already have a linkedin profile but registered to a different email address. The other person keeps sending you an invite to this unregistered address as that's all they have for you, whereas you may have registered with a specific email mailbox prefix just for linkedin.

This can then lead to utter confusion as Linkedin won't recognise the email address to which you received the invitation for login as you're not registered to it so there is no profile to login to or reset a password for.

Horses for courses. i find it quite useful.

Like a lot of tools they are only as good as the user and the amount of time they invest in learning how to use it - not saying this to be rude but if you've never needed to use it in the past, it's never going to do what you want it to unless you spend time in playing around with it.

They should have all been deleted, and I now cannot access any of them.

i used to be a freelance journo and set that up many years ago after completing a college course.

None of these I can now access as my email was used on each one, and linkedin says that email is not recognised!

Why are they not deleted? Anyone know? It would look utterly ridiculous to an agency or employer to have more than one.

Does anyone have a contact for them so I could contact them directly instead of being pushed around pointless FAQ sections?

You could always ask for a refund for the poor service you've received.

And I think you're right. It isn't designed for people like you, its designed for computer literate people who dont create 4 profiles then blame the system when it can't differentiate between them.

Who should have deleted them?

Could it be that you've changed email addresses and forgotten?

Anyway, the guy below might be able to help.....

Err how can anyone be allowed to create 4 profile using the same email address?

Surely something should be picking that up? I had no idea that was even possible?

How do I delete them all? I have asked for them all to be deleted?

And next time, think, I am perfectly computer literate you rude little man. I tried using linkedin a few times and never got anything from it once, so maybe that was an explanation. I was unable initially to delete profiles, can't remember why. Think I was being spammed endlessly so closed them down, or so I thought.

Now I cannot access anything.

So maybe their IT needs to be looked at, instead of trying to push people with genuine enquiries round a sea of FAQ so they don't have to answer emails or hell even answer the phone?

Are you not the same guy who was on the Match.com thread blaming Plenty of Fish for you not being able to get laid?

Oh, yes you are. Maybe the internet isn't for you?

Helpful stuff.

Am not the slightest bit interested in getting laid, thought actually you might be someone I would take an interest in how about it? I like rude, bullying types of men, doesn't everyone?

Have messages them to see if I can sort it out.

You can register multiple email addresses to your Linkedin account.

Bit harsh, but yes, for some it's just seen as a garbage tool.

Current job was through a linkedin contact. I don't change jobs lightly, and in IT 5 years average is pretty high, just have to learn to spot the BS.

Linkedin used to be useful and if you were contacted by a headhunter they were for the most part serious and worth talking to. A decade ago I have both recruited and been recruited through the site

It’s now total garbage and I have deleted my account. Full of billy bullish!tters and self-promoters; most posts are just noise; the profile of anyone that you know on there is likely to be at least slightly embellished so you can’t trust those of anyone else, and it’s the hunting ground of bottom-feeding recruitment agents and sales oiks of every description. Since quitting the site the number of spam messages and cold calls I get at work has reduced by over 90%.

Hopefully Linkedin will soon go the way of Friends Reunited and other sites that started out on a useful premise but decided that they needed to monetize its users to pay their bills.

As a contractor I find it a very useful tool for my industry.

Maintaining contacts via the use of linkedin is extremely beneficial for my professional network of past and present colleagues, as well as industry recruitment people. There are also many posts from the network that relates to how well certain sectors within the industry are performing globally which allows me to gauge the strengths and weaknesses of the market and where I might land my next contract.

So yes, I would say it's an extremely useful tool on the whole.

What I do find strange however is the people who barely (read if ever) change jobs but choose to have a profile or indeed, people I have known in the past that I barely called a friend who try to connect as if it's something akin to facebook. These are clearly the types who see it as another "app" to have on their phone and/or like to pry into others personal lives as a type of voyeur and perform some sort of strange comparison to how well they are doing compared to others. It's weird but that's social media for you I suppose.

I don't understand the people who are surprised that it has a quota of "serial bullstters" and "self promoters". It's basically a collection of CVs so (like a lot of CVs you might come across in real life or, dare i say, even your own CV) they contains information which ranges from 100% fact to 100% fiction.

However, unlike hard copy CVs, it's possible to check somebody's LinkedIn profile by emailing somebody that both of you are connected to. And another big bonus is that if I'm recruiting I can circulate the advert to my contacts and get put in touch with people who my Contacts can personally recommend, rather than relying on Agencies.

It may well be rubbish to "You". Given how succesful it's been it's clearly not rubbish to lots of people.
