Stripped bare!

We have progress Am now down to a bare chassis. Well, when I say bare, I haven't sandblasted it yet, but all the bits are off.





Looks like it's been subject to a lazy gearbox out job.



That's the tube under the box in case you're wondering. At least the weld is good the rest of the way round!

Should this not be a winter job and drive it in the summer or is it a neccesity job ?

Ideally yes, but I never seem to manage to do things at sensible times I started with the idea in Dec/Jan, though barely did anything other than strip the interior. Then had surgery on my shoulder which delayed things for 3months. I couldn't drive either during this time, though did manage to reupholster a good amount of the interior. I've just been itching to get started again!

Not strictly speaking a necessity, but would have needed doing within a couple of years, probably

While you're at it don't you think an engine upgrade would be good? I have a 1993 Cosworth Scorpio coming to the end of it's life. 175k miles - various problems with the car make it uneconomical to keep running it but the engine still seems fine. It drips some oil but doesn't burn any, and will still go up the motorway all day making very reasonable progress. The car has virtually no resale value and I've had it 8 years so it owes me nothing - could be available for a reasonable offer.

Well, I can't say that I'm not tempted, as I am, very tempted. I've thought about the V6 cossie option before. But can't really justify the extra expense and time to fit it. And having another car around getting stripped down wouldn't go down well :-)

Shame. It would be nice to know the engine lived on as a transplant as it's been a good car over the years and as I said, the engine still pulls like a train. Let me know if you change your mind - it would make a nice winter project...

Ah, now I see, I've got a load of pictures of everything (hopefully) I removed and where it came from, so hopefully will do the trick in the absence of any labels

Steve, I guess you're after rid of the whole car, not just the engine+elated bits?! Just out of curiousity, how much? It is the V6 in that isn't it? Mail me through profile if you prefer.

Morning Dave

Yes it's the whole car and yes it's the V6. Car is an estate and engine is 2935cc producing 195bhp.
The car is quite tatty, heater matrix bypassed as it was dumping 3 litres of coolant a day, funny wobble in the steering at low speeds round corners, air con condensor fan seized and various other annoyances. Just coming upto 175k miles, MOT expires in July so with the condition it's in I can't see it's worth me MOTing it to sell it and it won't go for much with a short MOT. It also smells strongly of dog!

I don't know what's worth having really due the mileage. It's not falling apart but I've had the car from 40k miles and haven't had to replace anything major so nothing will be pristine.

Dave, IMHO you are miles ahead (even with 175K on the clock) with Steve's engine. There is 20 years of advancements and realistly nearly twice the HP. You are obviously handy and have an engine hoist, pull the Cosworth out while the frame is at the sandblaster's and junk the rest. The only down side is if you have cats.

Bah, I don't think my compressor is man enough for the job when it comes to sandblasting, good for spot blasting but not great for large areas. Ah well, sandpaper and angle grinder it is! Grrr, just found another workshop (kwikfit) shaped jack imprint in a chassis tube, grrr!

I would have thought that the engine swap for £200 was a good upgrade. You could alsways keep your old one. The only down side may be the exhaust, won't you need a whole new exhaust system or at least new manifolds??
