Chaps,

I’m just fitting a Subaru rack to my Cerbera, so everything fits great I’ve nicked my brothers steering shaft from his Chimaera. It’s the shaft between the steering UJ’s in the wheel arch. Unfortunately the Cerbera shaft is slightly too long, the Chimaera shaft is perfect length but my brother wants it back!

Anyone got one kicking around, needs to be the original 320mm length. No body seems to sell them as it sounds like the UJs are now shorter and you’ll need a longer shaft to compensate!

Cheers

Car builder solutions may well be able to help.

I'm sure I bought one for my conversion from there sometime ago.

Maybe this will do, not sure of the size.

Thanks guys, CBS were either 280mm or 400mm. I’ve got a 330mm escort one but it’s still too long and the design doesn’t allow it to be cut down.

Someone must have one they’ll sell me, I thought they’d be loads around as when I spoke to racetech it sounded like if you had to replace a UJ then you’d have to fit a longer shaft as the UJs are all shorter now??? They only sell longer length ones to fit Chimaeras.

Have you tried below, obscene price but may be your only option. I'm having a similar issue with my chim conversion and the only one I can find is coming from Belgium!

If you didn’t know, the length of the chimaera shafts vary in between power steering and non power steering models.

I couldn't find the correct length shaft for my power steering conversion so had my local machine shop cut and shut my old shaft with this seamless tube. This is specifically sold by Car Conversions for that application. There is very little latitude in the correct length or the cross bolts won't fit.

the other option is to cut the splined ends off and weld them into a piece of CDS tubing. You really need to be totally confident with a welder for this because, well, you can imagine what happens if the welds crack..... doesn't mean it can't be done safely, but some care is needed and probably ultra-low carbon filler wire.
