So for the first time in 15+ years I've had an accident of sorts. Just a small bump in a supermarket car park with relatively minor damage. Frustrating nonetheless though.

Two cars reversing out of opposite spaces, both looking down the road to make sure not reversing into oncoming cars, neither of us aware that we were both doing so at the same time! These things happen I guess but I'm reminded of that classic line in Snatch about reversing! Never mind.

I imagine it is a pretty straightforward equal fault scenario? We both reversed at the same time and bumped into each other. Not sure who started the manoeuvre first but not sure that really matters?

It was all very amicable but just wondering what to do next? If it is equal fault and we go through insurance do I still pay the full excess? Is it worth waiting for quotes before engaging with insurance?

Thanks all.

ETA if we agree it is equal fault and they go through their own insurance and I choose to sort myself is this ok? Do we each just get on with our own thing?

I suppose it all depends on the cost of each repair and if its worth going through with an insurance claim.
If you both agree its not worth getting insurance involved and agree its a 50/50 fault, why not both pay for the repair of your own cars and move on.

50/50 through insurance, or agree to sort yours and they sort theirs.

If it goes for insurance and it's settled 5/0, you insurers will get half the cost of your repairs back from the tp, and his insurers will reimburse you half your excess. Same applies to him insurers. They'll get half their guy's repairs of your insurers and your insurers will reimbure him half his excess.

That's fair, especially if one of the cars costs far more to repair than the other. Or one of you has a far higher excess.
