Car for one plus big dog...

After much lurking, a first post...

Currently in the market for a new car to replace a camper van. For me and my retired greyhound. He needs space, but estates are big and boring....SUV's expensive, and boring, and hatchbacks necessitate folding down the back seats....possible, but not very safe and also...boring.

Would like something a bit entertaining, but comfort/luxury a priority given that you can't drive anywhere here over 30mph.

Auto a must really, too lazy for a manual and on long drives I get knee issues.

Any single guys with large dogs on here? What's not going to bore me senseless in a week?

Budget of 12 - 18k tops (and that is pushing it) and prefer no high milers...(100k plus jobs).

So far RR Sport? LR Freelander?

I used to take my golden retriever out in my mx5.

I think what ever car you get will be fine.

They are lovely animals, but probably more amenable than a greyhound that doesn't sit, is not particularly obedient, and is the size of a small horse

I think you'd struggle to get a greyhound in an MX5...

It depends on how far you want to travel, but my greyhound fits in my hatchback fine, without folding the seats down (Megane 175)



It's a bit tight with my lurcher too, but it works



If you want to go down the cage route then you need something very, VERY big.

Obviously we need pics of the greyhound though...

What puts you off estates so much? Several hot hatches come in estate form and would fit the bill. Might struggle with finding an auto though.

Also, what are your preferences regarding reliability and running costs? Quick search on the classifieds produced a '06 Porsche Cayenne that fitted the criteria but I wouldn't touch one.

Current favourite for me for tip runs and dog duties is now a CRV.

A non STI forester would fit the ops criteria I guess. Still a bit of fun and auto available.
