Thinking of selling my bike. Am I right in thinking eBay will want 10% of whatever I make? It seems they cap the fee at £250 but that seems like a hell of a lot if I sell at £2500!

If not eBay, where else?

You can put a classified advert on eBay. Runs for 30 days ( maybe 28) and use to cost 15 quid. Might have gone up but not by much. No bidding and no final fees.

You are not.

Gumtree is free as is car and classic and various other classified sites. You’ll need to weed out the time wasters and idiots whichever way you go. PistonHeads classifieds are free for bikes too iirc

This - You can put it in for a fixed price and invite offers. Nothing else to pay. Be prepared for a few time wasters. Sold my old blade to the 1st viewer. GLWTS

Classified add is the way to go, Ive sold a few this way. I also state that the only way I will accept an offer is if you are stood in front of me with the cash in your hand otherwise I ignore "What will you take for it" emails. The serious buyers will want to look at it before they make their offer.

From this year, there are now final fees to pay with classified ads. Didn't use to be the case.

Stuck the bike on as a classified and got a couple of what I thought were derisory offers. Tried again as an auction with a reserve and got a couple of bids within a day or two and the usual enquiries about its service history and what the reserve was (why do people ask that?) but zip else.

I'd put a contact number on the ad and would have expected anyone remotely serious to have called to find out more about the bike. Nobody did.

Wondering what to do now. Is it worth trying MCN or Autotrader?

I'm finding that selling anything either via Autotrader, PH, ebay, facebook or whatever, is really frustrating.

Everyone wants to pay trade prices or less than that. It wasn't long ago that if you could buy privately and save a few ££ over paying retail price than that was considered good going. Now it seems that if you pay anymore than trade price then you're a mug.

Tried selling my mint ZX9 a few times now. Had it up for £2300. Lots of really silly offers. Lots of wasted time. I did have one offer of £2k which i turned down, but i kind of wish i'd taken it now.

I did manage to sell my TT600 last month, but i ended up taking what i considered a pretty average price for it. Nice chap that bought it though, so that's ok.

Flea Bay are now a bloody law unto themselves and frankly I hate them and am now sick and tired of their joke policies. I've now been blocked from listing any thing on there for 30 days , because of what they " loosely term policy violations ". One of which is that someone dared message me their contact number, asking me to contact them, re one of our items for sale. So Flea bay barred both him and myself!
I spend a £ fortune on there buying parts etc etc and of course paying their bloody selling ££ fees and had 100 per cent feed back.
Yet bogus adverts litter the whole site and the same bogus ads reappear time after time.
They are now losing out big time to Face Book market place and long may it continue!!

Without sounding rude which I certainly don’t mean to be - it’s a market place that belongs to eBay. Not you or the other guy. If they don’t clamp down on inter customer communication then they are working commission free.

To be fair to eBay I find them to be about 10000% better than amazon. Sure, they have lost their way a bit in recent years but I feel that they have a wonderful core business that needs fresh talent at the top to re-organise.

Doesn’t sound like you’ve given it much of a chance TBH. It’s only been two weeks since your original post.

That had occurred to me.

Memories of using MCN back in the day and getting phone calls within hours of an advert appearing on a Wednesday.

I guess times have changed.

More of a buyers market than a sellers market generally nowadays unless you have something rare and/or desirable. Lots out there for sale but some of it can take months to sell unless you’re prepared to take a lower than expected offer.

R1200RT so a bit niche I guess.

A lot of the folk that are after one would most likely want to buy from a dealer.
