I have a Griff 500, of course, with full no claims etc etc. I want to get an old volvo estate (Boo Hiss), to lug around loads of junk.

But when I phoned up for qoutes, the insurance companies are telling me I can't use my no claims bonus as it is a second car.

I know Volvo estates, 2 litre on a K plate are serious performance machines - but being qouted £2000/yr!!!!!

How do you guys ensure any second cars??

Thanks.

I wanted to use my NCB from my Peugeot when I insured my Porsche with Footman James (saving about £350!) - BUT I had to cancel the Peugeot insurance (CIS) to get the NCB transfered!
So I phoned up FJ and they told me that if I insured the Peugeot with them they would mirror the NCB so both cars would have the discount Not only this but their quote was about £50 less than it was with CIS!

Same goes for Classic Line Ins in Leicester..

My Griff is on the Sun Alliance scheme where I had to prove I had to prove my no claims, but then I could use that no claims for my second car

I had the same prob moving all no claims to griff and driving another car.
Sunninghill did me a special deal offering me a policy with a lot of discount on a second car.
So i now have 7 yrs no claims on 1 policy and 3 years on another that I have just started.

Try Sunninghills when I got my Griff I was all NCBed out as insured in my name I've got a couple of vans, a Freelander and a Passat when I phoned them they said no problems we'll give you 5 years introductory discount if you send us a letter on company paper saying you have been driving constantly and claim free for 5 years.

I have just insured Griff 500 through A.Mannings, I have a Mundano ST24 with full no claims, they gave me an introductory discount as no claims on Griif = 0. Quote on limited mileage £450 odd including TVRCC track days. I couldn't beat it.

I want an Audi Quattro Coupe as a second car, only 750 quid to buy the car but over 350 quid to insure 3rd party.

Most people are insured 3rd party on any car. I spoke to A Manning and they claimed this was any car not owned by you.

So could you register the car as owned by someone else and then use your automatic 3rd party insurance for getting new tax discs or does the owner of the car have to insure the car 3rd party?

nope tried that years ago. for that to be the case the car has to be insured by the owner otherwise you are uninsured
