I was thinking about the new 992 that I've got coming, and how the spec was pretty much exactly what I wanted... traditionally I've swapped and changed cars every year or so, but I was thinking why would I need to sell this?

To get a faster car? Yeah you could go for a turbo s / turbo / gts when they come out.... but at what stage is it "too fast" to use? Will you get much more enjoyment for your £60k extra in a turbo s vs. an S that still cracks 100mph in 10 seconds?

To get a newer interior? Well if I wanted that, I could have bought a Tesla. Same cost pretty much if you went for a P100D, but tech is miles better than anything else on the market.

To "look like the latest model"? Tbh 911's tend to run in 7-8 year life cycles. The latest 992 will "look like new" for the next 7yrs+! After that, it becomes an aspiring classic (if cars are even legal then lol!).

So why would I ever change cars?

Am I just getting old, not wanting swap seats every few years now, or is this maturity lol?!

Because you might find it a bit dull? Not being negative but 911s in general are getting more Audi every refresh. Obviously not including the GT cars in that. I considered a 992, but in the end went for a 991.1 GTS as I wanted NA and a decent engine sound. Nearly went for a 993.

Maybe it’s just me showing my age, but I’m finding the latest shiny models just a but dull.

So, very true...

I would add that according to reviews the new 992 mid engined based platform is a huge step on from the 991..I've developed a nasty habit in the last couple of years chasing the latest 'must have' Porsche..I bought a 458 a few months ago which made me see sense that the most enjoyable cars don't need to be the latest.I feel the same about my Carrera white 981 Spyder..Both are strong candidates to be keepers in my garage.
I think a 992 of some sort will also be a keeper for me, but which one is another matter..Its a costly exercise to try and change cars often to get the latest one as i have found out..

I was looking at the 992 the dealer has offered me a loaner but I have had my perfect spec 991.1S Cab for about three years now and I doubt I could part with it. To spec a similar 992 will cost about 125K . Ive always had problems selling cars but I couldn't part with this one. The dealer also offered me a GT3 but I dont want a hardcore maybe I'm getting old but I still like to rev out the 3.8.

Depends on who you're asking. I'd keep it. But then, at 60K I would've probably gone for a 964 or a 993. But I'm not one for new cars, certainly not if I am looking for something fun.

For 60K you could get a real nice late 80s 3.2 Carrera. IMO, that's way cooler than any new 911 (the GT3, GT2 RS etc. etc are AWESOME, but not COOL, IMO). In any of those, you'll just look a bit flash, in a 993, for example, you'd be Mr ICE cool

And guess how much your 3.2 Carrera would be in 3 years or even 5. We can only speculate but an awful lot more than a new 911.

I should probably leave these comments to the "classic 911 thread", if there is one. Because somehow I feel that most won't agree with me here???

How are you finding the 991.1 GTS - was 1/2 think of swapping my wife’s 997.2 GTS for one ? Someone on here was moaning about the steering feel - any thoughts ? smile

That was precisely my line of thought.
But to be fair, one car can't tick all the boxes.
For cool I was thinking '73 2.4S or '89 3.2 G50
For Track I was thinking GT4 ... but tuned to surprise a few GT3's ? It has to modern to be happy working it so hard and everything has to be easily replaceable ...
etc ...

Now you're talking.....But I'd rather thrash the living daylights out of a 70s Porsche, than a new one. At least if the classic goes pop, you can whip the engine out in your lunchhour and fix with basic tools :-) You smash up, or kill your GT4, it'll be game over.

Maybe a trashed '73 into which you can stick a turbo motor, strip it and cage it. And maybe some slicks too cool

I'm thinking potentially failing hub carriers (where the wheel falls off)... etc.

That's a bit less likely on the GT4 .. I hope !
