Hi, I have just purchased a An S2 2001 Elise.

It needs an A service and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a Specialist Lotus center in Kent, rather than paying Dealer prices. Although any comments on reasons why I should go to a dealer would be welcome.

I also have a leaking roof and wondered if there was anything I could do to stop it. I have read a few articles and it appears they do suffer with leaking roofs, is it possible to stop leaks completly?

Finally as my S2 is 2001 it has the same roof as the S1. Does anyone know if I can upgrade to the later S2 roof, if so any idea's on costs?

Thanks for looking
Michael

depending where you are in Kent you will want to try:

www.maidstonesportscars.co.uk or

www.sinclairebodyshop.co.uk

both specialists - one near Maidstone, the other just over the bridge and down the 127 nr Romford
yes you can upgrade the the roof - not much change out of £1000 by the time youve finished though...and not guaranteed to not leak either.

Wheres it leaking from?

Thanks for your reply,

I live in Tunbridge wells, but used to live in Maidstone, I thought MaidstoneSportsCars was a Dealer?

It is leaking from both sides, not sure on the terminology, but it leaks about 1" forward of the front pin to release roof on both sides.

Thanks
Michael

no - thats Motorway Sports Cars

on your roof try:

making sure windows are adjusted properly
sealing the underside of the cant rails with black sealant - where they join the fabric, inside and out
spraying it with Fabsil (tent proofing stuff from camping shop)

that sorts out 99% of leaks - I did all that when I got mine and its never leaked

I know they are a dealer but worth giving Dreammachines in Heathfield a call...Been told their servicing is very reasonable

If you facied a blat to Arundel, Sussex, the one to try is Fibreglass Servies. Their rates are unbeatable, circa £150 for an A service I believe and they are a franchised Lotus service agent.

Michael, welcome to the from another TW resident. Wave if you see a black & gold S1 around - it'll be me

bogie's tips for the hood are well recommended but most of these little blighters leak a little bit.

As for servicing, I use Miles @ Fibreglass services as he is very very cheap and comes so well recommended. Great drive down there too if you can be bothered. For an A service it might not be worth it but for a B or C you really do save considerably.

MSC are well recommended as are Sinclaires who've worked on my car several times, slightly more than Miles but closer to home. Sinclaires customer service is 2nd to none.

DreamMachines are newly franchised so no real feel for how good they are or cost - they do give a discount to SELOC members though, as do Sinclaires and MSC so worth getting a membership.

If you'd like to meet a few more likeminded Lotus owners in the area why not pop along to the Monthly SELOC Kent meet this Thursday 8pm at the Wheatsheaf in Marsh Green (near Edenbridge). You're welcome to meet me in TW and come in convoy if you like.

Absolutely! We're a friendly bunch and this month's meet is turning out to be newbie month, so you won't be the only one!

As for the roof, I've got a later S2 and it still leaks (albeit not much). TBH if it's only leaking on the sills better to save yourself time and money and accept the inevitable. Although Bogie's tips sound worth a try. And he's got loads of stuff in his car to protect!

Thank you all for your comments and invite, unfortunatly I'm a bit under the thumb at the moment as I have a son only 5 weeks old, and I get my turn to change his nappy at night, lucky old me!

I will keep your names though if thats okay, as I would like the oppertunity to meet up with some like minded people once I get my evening pass back.

Where can I find Sinclaires?

Thanks

No problem Michael. Alternatively if you wanted to come along and meet some more PH'ers and some of the Kent Lotus crew perhaps you'd like to join us for this www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=65&t=179528 ?

I don't blame you for keeping the other half on-side, after all fair play to you for getting away with buying an impractical sportscar
