Clive Ford's equal length AND matched manifolds
Discussion
For me it's nearly all about character, feel and getting the best out of what I've got. Increased BHP is nice though!
I've been told that these manifolds, although expensive, do give a genuinely effective and efficient upgrade. Quite a bit more effective than induction upgrades by all accounts.
Yes their dear, but I'm looking at the price difference between the standard CF stainless and these, not just their price as stand alone......man maths, maybe? Lol

The thing I don't like about the std manifolds is the uneven throbby exhaust note that drones on long journeys, really tiresome. Anything that gets the pipes closer to an even length, and so put more even pulses through the rest of the system, has got to sound better surely.
On that basis (even though I've not yet heard/seen/tested the latest equal length design) I can't see there being any downsides at all to the latest offerings from Clive, not even the price which is great value for money considering what goes in to making them.

Is it something about the unusual firing order that gives the RV8 its characteristic burble. If so then the matched set-up will eliminate that characteristic. Equal length is about aesthetics IMO, they look fantastic but I assume the extra tubing will increase the difficulty we already face when fitting them in situ
There's nothing unusual about the firing, it's still one every 90 degrees , just if you have unequal lengths the pulses arrive at the final collector with an uneven time interval between them. Once you get the lengths the same you get a very tuneful exhaust, as the videos of clive's cross over equal length set up confirms.
Oh....I asked Lloyds about their CF manifolds where their not matched but equal....seems only available on the wildcat package but recommend clives full system. I asked about the inlet manifolds at the same time and their answer was the full fat CF exhaust system would make the biggest difference. Their view was seemingly and induction system is hampered my the rover heads and to stick to my 72mm. A story repeated by V8D when Rob did my engine.....so guess it must be right!

I couldn't agree more and for this reason I've always felt fitting a wide band lamda sensor in the Y where the exhaust gasses from each bank converge is not the best spot for it.Lloyds fitted mine there, logic seems to point towards it being the perfect placement for the lambda sensor but I've long suspected its not for the reason spitfire4v8 revealed above.
I'm super tempted by a set of Clive's equal length manifolds, but even then I feel moving my lambda sensor further downstream in the system would give me more stable AFRs.
The sound of the engine changes loads with the equal length manifolds. Sounds great great.
I have good memory of standing on the pit wall at Snetts with a certain well known chimp blasting past followed by one fitted with equal length manifolds. Completely different sound. both great.

The firing order on the Rover V8 is actually musical: 18436572 translated into left/right bank equates to it firing LRRLRLLR, the same as the riff that drummers call a paradiddle. That's my explanation for being mesmerised by the sound, anyway!

Thank you, I new there was something about the firing orderThat's my explanation for being mesmerised by the sound, anyway!

Very nice. Are we still plonking the Fi Tech on top.
Stage 4 heads and fitech should do the job and get me to 370hp on my 5l v8d
If we are talking the 180 degree opposite firing order version I have this fitted to my Griff. Very pleased with the looks and sound of the system. Throttle response is much improved as well.
