Just got a 2007 325 convertible (auto) for the weekend. Won't do many miles, probably less than 2,000 a year.

Was thinking about a warranty on it, as looking at what the past owner spent, soon added up over a year. Nox sensor, airbag control, calipers, etc etc.

BMW want 100 per month for a warranty, not looked at others yet.

What do people do, just await the big bills or get an aftermarket warranty?

Thoughts.....

I'd just put 100 a month away to cover any bills. Then if there are no bills you have a nice slush fund for anything else. Maybe get it nicely detailed if you are only using it in the summer months, nice to have it looking nice.

As you are only going to do 2k miles a year, there shouldn't be too many big bills. Although if they are anything like the older E46's you need to be able to be able to do a bit of diagnosis/fixing yourself if you want to keep the bills down.

P.S. Should be a nice drive, the straight 6's are a lovely engine.

N53 engine or n52?

Big difference in potential bills. Especially an early n53 unless it's had new injectors recently (post 2014).

It's an N53 B30A per the plate in the door.

Got it booked into a BMW indy to have a look at it, will see if they can let me know what injectors it has. That said, starts fine, the issue will be the battery I guess if sat about all week.

Maintained by BMW up to 14, then seemed to be from a Honda main dealer thereon.

I’ve got the same car on 08 plate (n53 3.0 engine) check my recent posts if you get a min. I’m paying £107 a month on comphrensive cover with bmw. I’d recommend going to your dealer and asking what recalls have been carried out, my vehicle has had everything done apart from injectors which doesn’t seem to come up on there systems for my vehicle. Car was sweet for 3 years, then i let it sit for about an year only driving once a week on short trips. In the last year it’s become my daily again, it’s been hit and miss since, in the last 6 months had a valve cover gasket repaired and last month the famous nox sensor (both common probs and both covered under warranty) cars still not 100% right, exhaust seems to smoke a lot (which is common with n53 but I think theres more to it and it seems to run better on low fuel?!? Lol) can’t really do nothing till a fault code appears so I intend to keep on to my warranty till I sell the car, well worth it if a big bill comes in. Thing is bmw will only go by a fault code 9/10 times, your car would be a lot better off with an Indy that knows the ins and outs of a n53, I know my luck though I will hit with bill after bill, so bmw warranty makes Sense for me. Good luck

Oh and FYI the nox sensor replaced with bmw was billed at £537 quid, luckily covered under warranty. A lot of people on here recommend a nox emulator so maybe go for that if you suspect nox issues in The future, there a lot cheaper too
