Used VW Jetta 1.8 TSI (Preferably) MK6 - Where in UK?

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a used car, have a company car at the moment but soon no longer will.

I've always been a fan of VW's, thinking of looking at Jetta Mk6 1.8 TSI.

The market is flooded with 1.4 TSI's but from previous experience the car needs more power, so the larger engine is what I'm after.

Low mileage, no rust, the usual things are what I'm keeping my eye out for.

Does anyone know of any for sale in the UK?

If not, are there any recommendations for similar cars (with a boot, not hatchback) on the market for approx. 7k?

I'd say the Alfa 159 with the 1.8T engine is a great shout at this price point the drivetrain has proven itself to be reliable as has the rest of the car & imo it's one of the best looking saloons made, in Ti form they're hard to find but worth seeking out.

The VW Approved Used site has only 51 Jettas, all of which are diesels or 1.4TSi. It's a comparatively rare car in the UK, as you've probably discovered.

1.4TSI is 160PS though, which in a DSG (?) is pretty snappy. But if you need more, you need more.

For what it's worth I also prefer the Jetta over the Golf. Have a 2016 2.0 TDi BlueMotion SE DSG, which is the mutt's nuts in many ways. Came with the Comfort Pack: auto lights, wipers, mirrors, rear-view, Park-Pilot, metallic paint. 2015/2016 also has multi-link rear suspension. It's a nice package to spend all day in.

Jetta is very brisk and refined, even with the diesel, also v. slippery with good aero so it feels snappy to drive. DSG even more so, but with more servicing costs.

The upside is that Jettas seem to be priced below similar Golf's on the VW Approved site. Downside is that 4.65 metres of Jetta only just fits in a Tesco parking space, so Park Pilot is going to save your bumper paint.

Other booted saloons on the shortlist were Mondeos, Volvo S60, Octavia VRS (though it's a hatch at the back) Skoda Superb, Passats, Mazda 6 and the Huyundai Whatchamacallit.

Suggest you test-drive a recent 1.4 TSi DSG if you can find one in budget. SE spec is a good target to aim for. TDi's of 2015/16 vintage are £20 VED and 60+ mpg, if you feel so inclined.

VW Das Welt warranty is pretty good if you can find an Approved car.

There is/was a TSI 150 GT model in the UK, and 120, 140 and 170 PS variants in Europe.

The current US engines are the 1.4L turbo with 147PS and a 230HP turbo-four. The TDi's got the post diesel-gate common rail EA288 engine from about mid/late 2015, PD engines before that.

The diesels are a lot of fun and can be ramped up to 200+ PS with a boost-box.

A lot of Jettas were bought as rep-mobiles so TDi's prevail.
