BMW G650 XCountry

Hi,

I might have the opportunity to buy a friends 2009 BMW G650 XCountry with around 15k on it, which I would use for a bit of commuting and also to get back into biking. My last bike was short lived; around 7 years ago I bought a brand new Speed Triple and within 500 miles I hit a deer and came off, and as a result lost my confidence and sold it.

The G650 isn't being used much by my friend and he suspects it has a problem with the head gasket (it runs) so I would have to sort that out; I'm quite handy when it comes to fixing things, so hopefully this shouldn't be too much of a challenge?

I sense that they are not the most sought after bikes but I like the way it looks. We haven't discussed price (he is very reasonable), and with so few similar bikes on the market I'm struggling to come up with a fair price/offer (factoring in the potential head gasket issue). Any view/opinions welcome.

WBAB Value it at £1299, which is bottom book trade price usually, with the (un)known issue I'd be wanting to pay less than a grand for it.

Have these got the Rotax twin plug motor? Water pump can go on these, mixing oil and water through the seal (the bit that fails!). Which probably looks like a HG... This is expensive to repair so I would suggest you walk on by if it's that.

Many thanks for the helpful replies; my friend is still deciding whether to not to sell, so will try and find out a bit more about the head gasket issue before pursuing it...!
