Why is Ebay such a s*** company?

I've had communication recently about a watch I had for sale. The guy rightly wanted to see it and then didn't turn up. This was the 3rd time this has happened on ebay so I took it off sale and since sold it through another forum.
About 2 to 3 weeks after this, I was informed that I was being banned for a week for selling outside of ebay! I contacted the customer service team and explained that I hadn't sold it and could provide proof. In fact why didn't they ask the buyer who didn't bother to show....
5 weeks on I've now been hit with a £250 final seller fee as if the watch had been sold.
I contacted them again today and was told that I didn't follow policy which is if someone wants to see an item they must click on Buy It Now then if they didn't buy, open a dispute to have the charge released.
I didn't know this - having been a seller for over 15yrs and never had a problem before.
As you can imagine I'm annoyed as f about it and have cancelled the link to paypal.
What are my next steps people? The account will be closed as I find this atrocious behavior. It seems that they have me over a barrel as I didn't know anyone who wants to see an item for sale must do so using buy it now.
Now I've sold another watch just before this happened where the bloke came out to see it, bought it and did the BIN then. So what the f is ebays problem apart from stiffing long standing customers?!?

My account was hacked. I spent hours finding a way to contact them, but every time they needed my password. I DON'T HAVE A PASSWORD. THE BAR STEWARDS HAVE CHANGED IT! Round and round in circles. I finally found their head office number, and actually - you won't believe this - spoke to someone. "We can't help you - go on line and the system will take you through the procedure". I now no longer have an Ebay account. Too stressful.

eBay/Paypal are companies I have very little time for so will only use them now to sell low risk items when they are running the £1 final value fee offers (which happens frequently). Have you been charged the £250 yet? The problem with cancelling the link/card is that your account then goes into arrears and they then pass it on to a debt collection agency. I would definitely keep pursuing it; I had a fraudulent chargeback for £180 ten years ago and eBay/Paypal didn't bother investigating before finding in the buyers favour (he bought my brand new iPod then sent a faulty old one back); I tend not to roll over when these things happen and take it as point of principal so started a small claims action, which PayPal settled in full plus costs. lowdrag said:

Mine was hacked earlier this week and once I found the correct phone number and a helpful person, they were very good. Luckily they picked up on the scam quite quickly (selling a new Karcher pressure washer for £28) and locked my account and pulled the ads before I had even noticed anything was wrong, but the hacker still made over £4k. Ebay are refunding everyone within hours of them logging a claim and taking the whole thing as a loss. I had a final warning for sending a message to a seller saying thanks for the item and if they had any more to sell let me know. Apparently that's not allowed. Member for almost 20 years and 1000s of purchases and 100s of sales.. ok then.
Then they started asking for all my ID for paypal verification which I sent and they rejected.
I don't use it much now, only for overseas stuff I CBA to track down. Anything UK I use amazon or direct.

Use it for buying only, have tried selling a car twice and attracted vermin only.
EBAY uses PAYPAL as a default means of paying for anything, the vermin use PAYPAL so that they can say item never turned up, does not work, etc.
As a seller you will lose EVERY time.
I think many people still see it as it was 10 -15 years ago but today it is mainly an online marketplace catering for busIness, not really any different to Banggood, alibaba etc.
The sad part is that the vermin are only a very small part of the community but cause so much trouble it makes anyone thinking of selling think twice.

He was complaining about the fees on eBay yesterday saying it takes a big chunk of the profit out of his sales..
I only buy on eBay, but use PayPal to buy things quite a bit on other sites. I do not take payment by PayPal as it seems to be a common scam.

I fully agree with you on eBay and PayPal; I don't use them anymore. But dealing with them the way you describe sounds like more of a hassle. I think it'd be easier to keep the proof of selling elsewhere to someone else, and if a debt collection agency tries to chase you, inform that the sum is in dispute, send them a copy of the file and they have to drop the case or they'll take you to county court, where your evidence will be given proper attention. Much less hassle than trying to get eBay to listen, investigate or admit that they're wrong.eBay you have to be careful. Hot items like iPhones and iPads are trouble as they hold value and are easy to sell on so attract scammers. And losers too. I sold an old iPhone 5 last week for £10 and the guy asked to cancel as he changed his mind.
