Insurance for boats abroad?
Discussion
I'm in the process of buying a boat that will be kept in Italy in a marina.
Its a 10.9m motor boat.
Can anyone recommend an insurance broker.
My partner and I have power boat level 2 and we keep a 7m power boat in the UK. Our existing broker doesn't do cover outside the UK. I believe applying for ICC for our UK license is a paperwork exercise. However I do know that the new boat is slightly over 10m which I believe is the longest boat on a level 2 license. I wonder if we need to get more qualified? I was intending on getting a skipper to spend three days with us on the new boat before we went out alone.
All advise welcome.

You will need to do your Day Skipper course or the ICC course to use boats in the Med over 10m. Its a straight forward course and probably worth it to give you the experience of using a larger boat. Its a 10.9m motor boat.

If you PM me I will help out with the insurance. I am a yacht broker, and we are introducers for a number of good insurers who will able to help.

I think I need to do my day skipper course. Typically do charter companies allow you to bareboat charter once you have this if this is a route we also want to go down?
Yes but only with the ICC certificate, which you can apply for from the RYA once you have done day skipper. Gassing Station | Boats, Planes & Trains | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
