So employers have to provide a work place pension, we opted for NEST, some staff opted out, some in, but we have one that wants his payments to go to his private pension. We can find anything on this situation. Can people opt out of the work place pension then redirect the money, we think maybe not, you opt into the workplace pension and pay into that OR you opt out , if you opt out then any payment contributions made by the company are just voluntary, any know what the score is ?
cheers

Yes, an employer can pay into a private pension but they are not under any obligation to do so.

Until 8 months ago I had opted out of my workplace pension and had my pension contributions paid into a private pension. My new employer won’t do that as a matter of policy so I had to join the workplace pension.

I’ve had that refused. Too much admin for the employer, no obligation to do it
