And........?

Is it your thinking that air fresheners are exempt from the laws on having something obstructing the view through the windscreen?

Well over half the cars I test have an advise that I have removed an object from the drivers view, 90% are bloody air fresheners.

I have never smoked, pissed or st in my cars.

I also have a wash on the last Friday of the month. Religiously.

I still like a nice feu orange though. Nothing beats the smell of 1980s minicab.

So, windscreen-mounted dashcams will be illegal?

afaik they already are if they obstruct the drivers view https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/sticker... ?
Mine is mounted behind /to the side of the rear view mirror so that it can't be seen by the driver as the mirror obscures it.

The rules are with regards to the MOT. Any obstruction larger than 10mm in Zone A (basically in front of you and the width of the steering wheel) or 40mm in zone B (anywhere else the wipers sweep) is a fail be it a chip or a dream catcher.

The grey area is that it must be the drivers view of the ROAD not the sky etc so a dash cam mounted up high is fine where an air freshener hanging from the mirror is going to be an issue.

We have the authority as a tester to remove the item and advise as such if we think it will be safe to do so without damage, i.e. I will remove an air freshener but no way will I touch a sat nav or camera and be blamed for breaking it, that would just be a fail.

You would not believe some places sat navs are stuck, right in front of the driver, under the mirror on a Mini meaning a total blank area of the screen etc etc, it is common sense at the end of the day.
