Volvo v40, any good?

A colleague has a V40 D2 on a 16 plate and he tells me he has never had an issue with it, probably does a similar commute to your daughter, mostly on motorways and he seems happy with it.

Depending on where you live and where your daughter is commuting you may want to check if it is ULEZ compliant or she may end up getting hit with extra unexpected charges, I suspect the 13 plate D4's may not be compliant but I could be wrong, D2 is probably ok.

I'd say the D4 is the one to go for as it's a nice mix of pace & grace.

There is one in the household (1.6 T4) though not my car. Only grumbles are that her phone won't play music over bluetooth & there's no inbuilt satnav.
I've driven it & have to say I'm actually impressed. Handles better than expected, in fact it is quite a firm setup. Decent amount of get up & go, with seats that are uber comfy.
Take one for a test drive & see what she thinks!

I've got a D3 CC with the 5 cylinder engine. Drives nice enough, quite torquey and it's a Nav Lux model, so has satnav, Bluetooth etc.

The post 2014 4 cylinder D4 engine gives a great balance of performance and economy, is Euro 6/ULEZ compliant and doesn't need AdBlue.

Always see north of 50MPG and 60MPG is easily achievable on a long motorway run cruising at 70MPH in an S60, so the V40 should be better as it's lighter.

The 2.0 VEA engines are all the same, just different states of tune, so a 2014 2.0 D3 would be fine as well - 150BHP vs 180BHP for the D4.
