What's the law on a EU foreign national living in the UK, driving a UK registered car ( insured by them in UK ) on their foreign license being stopped for Drink driving

I take it they would receive a driving ban on their international license and car would be flagged on ANPR should they attempt to drive it in the UK , but is there a mechanism to stop them applying for a UK drivers license ?

thanks

Anyone who gets convicted on a foreign licence in the UK gets a UK licence created for them with the conviction noted. So they would be given a UK licence, and they would be banned for the usual 12 months.

There is no such thing as an international driving licence (or license).

When I did it (not DD, just 37 in a 30) in 2007, the magistrate told me it would be added to my 'UK driving record', not a licence.

Disqualification applies to the individual not the licence, so if he did ayyempt to obtain a UK licence (a) he'd be commiting an offence and (b) if he did somehow obtain one it would be void, and by driving he'd be committing a further offence.

In practice as above the DVLA will create a driving record (sometimes known as a ghost licence) for him to record the details of the ban, so any application for a licence should result in a firm 'no'.
