Hi all,

7 months ago I bought myself a 2016 335d M-sport GT (I know, considered ugly by most but I like it). I paid a few quid short of £18k for it and it has now done 45k miles. Last month I paid out £1k for its 1st MOT, a service, new brakes and extending the warranty. So hopefully I shouldn't have much more to pay out for the next year. Every mile has been a pleasure and its suited my needs perfectly.

However, and here's the conundrum....my head has been turned by a beauty in my local garage. Its a 2013 640d M-sport in carbon black. It has 63k miles and the dealer wants £18,650. The current MOT is up in July so potentially a bit of money will also be needed. I have taken it for a quick spin and while it feels no different in performance, the whole driving experience and cabin feels well, just better than my 35d.

The dealer has said he would do a p/ex but wants my car + £2k. That seems a bit much to me, but I haven't bothered haggling as yet. So what should I do??? stick with the fat ugly one but at least I know where I am financially or go with the carbon black beauty that potentially could cost me a load more money??

Why did you by the GT originally? Presumably for practical reasons, which the 640d (assume the 2 door Coupe) will not fulfil, as the rear seats are really only nominal.

Hi rassi, sorry the 640d is the 4 door GC model. But your right buying the GT was partly because of the space it has in the back, but in reality all I carry around are my two 8 year olds and shopping.

Is the older, higher mileage 640 really worth the +£2k more than my GT?

It may be prudent to check that your current car is a Euro 6 which I guess it is and the 6 series is a Euro 5 which again I guess it is with regards to all the legislation that is gradually sweeping the country?

The 2015 BMW diesels are Euro 6 but 2013 are still only Euro 5 so not London ULEZ compliant.
